High-pT Pion Quenching versus anti+Baryon Enhancement in Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions

چکیده
Jet quenching of quarks and gluons in central A + A collisions suppresses the high-pT meson production and exposes novel baryon dynamics that we attribute to (gluonic) baryon junctions. This mechanism predicts baryon enhancement in a finite moderate-pT window that decreases with increasing impact parameter. We also extend recent calculations of the transverse momentum behavior of p/π and p̄/π to other baryon species and show that a similar pattern is expected for the K/Λ and K/Λ̄ ratios. Within the framework of the model constant p̄/p and Λ̄/Λ ratios are found in central Au+Au collisions at RHIC energies up to pT ≃ 4− 5 GeV.

High transverse momentum identified particle spectra in 200 GeV collisions from STAR
Significant baryon over meson enhancement was measured at RHIC in the intermediate transverse momentum range of pT = 2−4 GeV/c (”baryonmeson puzzle”). With STAR detector we were able to extend particle identification towards higher transverse momentum offering further insights into the particle production mechanisms at intermediate to high pT . In this paper we present results on charged pion, ...
متن کاملIdentified Particle Production at High Transverse Momentum in Nucleus-nucleus Collisions at Rhic
Experimental results for identified hadron spectra in AA collisions at RHIC are reviewed. Jet suppression in central AuAu collisions at 200 GeV is seen in leading meson and baryon spectra at high pt. Enhanced baryon production at intermediate pT (2 < pt < 5 GeV/c) is related to quark content but not its mass. In d+Au collisions Cronin enhancement is observed with larger magnitude for baryons th...
متن کاملAnomalous Anti-proton to Negative Pion Ratio as Revealed by Jet Quenching at RHIC
We study the apparent discrepancy between the standard PQCD predictions for the meson and baryon ratios and multiplicities at moderate high pT > 2 GeV and recent experimental measurements in Au + Au collisions at √ sNN = 130 GeV at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). We show that the differences, most pronounced in central collisions, can be explained by a strong non-perturbative baryon...
متن کاملStrange Baryon Production From Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions at the AGS, SPS and RHIC
We will present a review of selected results on strange baryon production from nucleus-nucleus collisions at the AGS, SPS and RHIC. From the AGS and SPS heavy ion physics program several intriguing aspects: centrality dependence of strangeness production, anti-hyperon yield, hyperon production enhancement and baryon number transport will be highlighted. Our discussion on RHIC results will focus...
متن کاملOverview and Recent Results from BRAHMS
The BRAHMS experiment was designed to measure and characterize in particular the properties of rapidity dependence of particle production in heavy ion collisions. The data-taking is now over, results of several years of analysis have been published and demonstrates several important features of the rapidity dependence, not envisioned from the start of the RHIC program. The bulk properties of th...
